| 'High Seas Expedition' at Vacation Bible School |

“Let’s go!” yelled the crowd as the nearly 200 brightly-colored balloons are released to their mission. This launch is the finale to a five-day “High Seas Expedition” Vacation Bible School program teaching about God’s Word, and was held at the Christian Reformed Church of Pease this past week. This final day is letting loose the proverbial “message in the bottle” as balloons sail off to encourage all who find them with God’s uplifting words on the attached message, along with a request to contact the church to let them know where the balloons are found. (And don’t worry; the proper research was done to ensure that the balloons and string were biodegradable.) To further highlight the last day’s theme of sharing God’s love with everyone, a dozen fleece quilts were hand-tied by the 120 students to send to Africa for relief efforts sponsored by World Vision’s “Operation Kid-to-Kid.” Carefully placed inside each quilt were cloth hearts with each student’s name that worked on that particular quilt. Just before the launch, the “sailor hat-clad” students robustly sang and performed for about 30 minutes aboard a three-dimensional ship complete with mast, ballast and trimmings. The ship and event was created by the efforts of about 50 volunteers from the church. The students came from a wider area, by invitation and word of mouth. The Christian Reformed Church of Pease has many community involvements including the upcoming and popularly traditional July 3, 6 p.m. Patriotic Program featuring guest performers, followed by refreshments from the canteen, games, and Fourth of July fireworks at dusk, to which you are cordially invited. |
