Veteran groups request to keep Veterans Service Office a separate unit
•Two area organizations of military veterans made documented requests to keep the Veterans Service Office a separate unit instead of merging it with two other county departments. The request also included making the office assistant answerable only to the county’s veterans service officer, rather than taking calls for the other two offices. Representatives of the organizations were at the meeting but left before the county board noted their requests. “Some stuff should stay in that veterans office,” said Commissioner Roger Tellinghuisen during the discussion. He said there are leaks coming out of the VSO office. There will be more discussion at the Tuesday, June 29, quarterly meeting of the veterans committee at 9 a.m.
