Garritt Santema
Funeral services for Garritt H. Santema, 82, of Little Falls, Minn. were held Monday, June 21, 2010 at Camp Ripley Chapel in Little Falls with the Rev. Greggory Valentine officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Santema, John Santema, Kevin Santema, Sidney Santema, David Santema and Alan Byker. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Benson, Dale Benson, Dennis Benson, Les Peterson, Danny Peterson, Greg Gohmann and Matthew Gohmann. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Military rites were by Little Falls American Legion Post #46.

Garritt died June 18.

He was born Oct. 2, 1927 in Pease to Hilly and Hattie (Wieberdink) Santema. He grew up in the Pease area and attended school there.

He enlisted in the United States National Guard on Jan. 16, 1951 and was honorably discharged on Sept. 21, 1952 at Camp Rucker, Ala.

He was united in marriage to Arline Ziemer on Jan. 9, 1951 in Milaca. The couple lived in Milaca and Alabama until moving to Little Falls in 1967.

Garritt worked at Camp Ripley as a mechanic retiring on Oct. 2, 1987. He enjoyed camping at the KOA campground on Fish Trap Lake near Cushing, Minn. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Garritt enjoyed bowling and playing pool. He was a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #46.

He is survived by his wife Arline Santema; children Garritt Santema of Little Falls, Barbara Erickson of Little Falls, Gail Santema of Little Falls and Greg Santema of Little Falls; nine grandchildren; and brother Harold (Marlys) Santema of Milaca.

Garritt was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Arrangements were by Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls.
