Big changes in snowmobile training
The Milaca Area Snowmobile Safety Trainers have a new program for those seeking to obtain their snowmobile safety certification.

In years past, students attended an eight-hour course over two evenings and one Saturday.

Now, however, thanks to a pilot program being tested, students can learn at home via a CD.

There is no cost to obtain the CD.

Youth (ages 11 to 15) and adults can obtain the CD from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources by calling 800-366-8917, ext. 2501 or going online: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

The CD will be mailed at no cost.

CDs can also be obtained at Milaca High School, from Thomas Sno

Sports, or at Hendy’s Auto Service.

The program is similar to the ATV training program that is currently in place.

On Saturday, Jan. 23, students will take the written test and the drivers test, which is approximately three to four hours total. The testing, which costs $6, will take place at the Milaca Fire Hall.

Certification is required by law for anyone born after Dec. 31, 1976. Certification goes into effect at age 12.

The CD, which works on both MAC and PC computers, allows students to work at their own pace by simply following the instructions on the CD.

“There’s a lot of good information on the CD,” instructor Todd “Hendy” Hendrickson said.

For more information, contact Hendy at 320-983-2235, Charlie Krueger at 320-983-6815 or Tom Rowland at Thomas Sno Sports at 320-556-3467.
