Milaca wins Duals Wrestling Tournament

Milaca went 3-0 to win the title at the Milaca Wolves Duals Wrestling Tournament Saturday.
The Wolves stopped Cloquet-Esko 65-9 in the first round and moved to the finals by trimming Sauk Rapids-Rice 50-18 in the second round.


Milaca then topped Elk River 61-15 in the championship match.


Ninth-grader Joey Curtis at 103 pounds, sophomore Jordan Warren at 112, senior Mike Kelley at 135, senior Clinton Sampson at 160, sophomore Justin Ladehoff at 171, senior Ripp Baker at 189, senior Marshal Ash at 215 and senior Jim Peterson at heavyweight scored pins for the Wolves against Elk River.


Ninth-grader Jonah Gahm at 125 and senior Jason Rogalla at 130 won by technical fall and senior Jordy Rogalla won a decision at 140.


Junior Austin Stevens at 145 and senior Tyler Stevens at 152 had pins for Elk River while junior Jake Staffenhagen won a decision at 119.


Milaca, which hosts New London-Spicer Tuesday night at 7:30, boosted its record to 7-1.
The Wolves are ranked No. 8 in The Guillotine magazine’s Class AA state ratings while New London-Spicer is No. 9.
