On Saturday, Oct. 3, the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a stolen vehicle.

Around 1:25 a.m., Sgt. Dan Holada of the sheriff’s office spotted the vehicle eastbound on Main Street in Foreston, approaching Washington Avenue. The driver crossed over Highway 23 onto 130th Street.

As Holada attempted to catch up to the vehicle, he clocked the car at 90 mph (in a 50 mph zone) and noted it was the vehicle that had been reported stolen.

The driver then turned northbound onto 160th Avenue and accelerated. The deputy activated the squad’s emergency lights and sirens, but the driver didn’t stop and reached up to 80 mph on the gravel road.

After about a half-mile, the vehicle began fish-tailing and the driver lost control, ending up in the west ditch.
When the vehicle stopped, the officer saw the driver, a male, jump into the back seat and a female was in the front passenger seat with her seat belt on.

The 16-year-old male claimed he had been whipped into the backseat.

And though the deputy could smell alcohol on the teenager, he denied drinking any.

A preliminary breath test revealed the teen had a blood alcohol content of .117 percent.

The female, Karissa Jayne Noack, 34, had a blood alcohol content of .114 percent.

Both complained of pain so they were transported to North Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Noack was treated and released for a sore neck and headache.

The teenager suffered a right fractured arm.

Inside the vehicle were open bottles of Jagermeister.

Noack later told authorities that she had taken the vehicle from her mother and failed to return at the agreed upon time.

She said her mother had sent her a text message telling her that if she didn’t return the vehicle she would call law enforcement.

Noack said she picked up the 16-year-old around 9:30 the night before and that they had been drinking and driving around. She also said that when the police starting pursuing them, she told the teenager to drive because he was a better driver and could “out-drive the cops.”

Noack has been charged with theft, temporary control of a motor vehicle, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

She was also charged with procuring alcohol for persons under 21 years of age, which is a maximum penalty of one year in jail, and open bottle.

Noack was released on her own recognizance on Monday, Oct. 5.
