Holthusen, Kendall win Stones Throw titles
 jonhputts.jpgJon Holthusen won the men’s championship flight while Lorraine Kendall captured women’s honors at the Stones Throw Golf Club Championship Tournament Sunday.

Holthusen, who placed fourth in the championship flight last year, topped Beau Moyer in the first round of match play to advance to the semifinals where he defeated Dan McLean. He then topped Todd Hasz in the finals.

Hasz advanced to the title match by defeating Marshall Bruflodt in the first round and Scott Holt in the semifinals.

Jamie Danielson, who lost to Holt in the first round, came back to stop Bruflodt and Moyer to earn consolation honors.

Kendall topped Jenny Berglund in the first round and moved to the finals by defeating Sandy Vedders. She then topped Wendy Hoeck in the championship match.

Hoeck had advanced to the finals by stopping Laurie Reetz and Wendy Prince.

foxputts.jpgCarolyn Fox, who lost to Prince in the opening round, defeated Reetz and Marian Olson to win consolation honors.

In the other flights:

•Josh Nelson won the men’s first flight, defeating Al Siemers in the finals after topping Warren Johnson in the first round and Bill Ruis in the semifinals.

Siemers reached the title match by topping Shawn Nelson and Tom Wilken.

Shawn Nelson won consolation honors by topping Jeff Rice and Doug Reetz.

•Joe Hasz topped Marty Nelson in the finals of the men’s second flight. Hasz gained the finals by topping Chad Johnson in the semifinals and Mike Bitz in the semifinals while Nelson advanced to the finals by stopping Steve Sauer and Mark Johnson.

Chad Johnson stopped Ross Broberg and Sauer to earn consolation honors.

•Greg Anderson stopped Travis Kiel to win the men’s third flight. Anderson defeated Kirk Swenson in the opening round and Grant Ruis in the semifinals while Kiel topped Ken Ruis and Greg Moyer to reach the finals.

Greg Sorenson, who lost to Moyer in the first round, topped Ken Ruis and Joel Patnode to win the consolation title.

•Kirk Eggen topped Dan Schaaf to win the men’s fourth flight. Eggen defeated Mitch Siemers in the first round and Travis Olson in the semifinals while Schaaf reached the finals with victories over Jeff Kuperus and Sam VanderPlaats.

Gregg Johnson, who lost to Olson in the first round, won consolation honors by defeating Siemers and Kuperus.

•Larry Kuperus topped Daine Billmark in the finals of the men’s fifth flight. Kuperus reached the finals by stopping Randy Reiman in the opening round and Shane Marudas in the semifinals while Billmark defeated Alex Packard and Mark Bruflodt.

Packard won the consolation title by topping Doug Erickson and Reiman.
