Man with long history of assault, attacks teenager
beaulieublaine.jpgBlaine Leigh Beaulieu has been charged with felony assault after attacking a 17-year-old. It’s his ninth arrest for assault since 2000.

The 27-year-old Isle man allegedly assaulted the 17-year-old while they were driving in a vehicle on Saturday, May 9 in the Onamia area.

The teen reported to Mille Lacs Tribal Police Officers Jeremiah Erickson and Tim Kintop that Beaulieu began hitting him in the face with a closed fist. He reported being struck six or seven times and was able to block several more punches.

The teenager told police it was an unprovoked attack and he had no idea why Beaulieu struck him.

Officers photographed the large bruise/bump on the victim’s forehead, along with the blood that was on his face.

The officers received information that Beaulieu was in a hotel room at the Grand Casino Mille Lacs and observed surveillance video of him entering the hotel.

Beaulieu, who has been excluded from all lands held in trust by the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe (a court order dated Oct. 24, 2008), was arrested at the hotel room.

During the transport of Beaulieu, sergeant Jeff Schafer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the suspect. Beaulieu refused to submit a preliminary breath test.

During that transport, the suspect kicked the squad car and banged his head against the divider. He also told the officer, “Wait until I see you without your badge on.”

Beaulieu has assault convictions from April 2000, June 2005 (two), January 2006, January 2007, March 2007,  May 2008, and July 2008.

He has been charged with felony fifth degree assault which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

He’s also been charged with trespassing.

Unconditional bail has been set at $100,000 and conditional bail has been set at $50,000.
