A split with Monticello has given the Milaca VFW baseball team it’s second win in three games.
Milaca followed up their 5-1 win over Princeton last Monday with a doubleheader against Monticello on Thursday.
In game one Monticello earned an 8-2 victory, but in game two Milaca was the victor by a score of 7-3.
In that second game Milaca jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the opening inning. After four full, Milaca’s lead had stretched to 7-0. However, Monticello made a run in the fifth inning by scoring three runs, but Milaca clung to the four-run win.
Sam Larsen earned the win after pitching four innings of no-hit ball and striking out three batters.
At the plate Milaca was led by Steven Vanderhoff who went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in (RBI). Blake Kiel scored twice while rapping two singles.
The win pushed Milaca to 7-16 on the season.
Game one did not go as well for Milaca. Monticello scored twice in the top of the third inning. Milaca answered wtih two of their own in the bottom of the inning, but that would be all their offense could muster as they left eight runners on base in the game. Monticell eventually added six more runs to win 8-2.
Matt Fransen was stuck with the loss despite pitching a complete game and allowing only two earned runs. He and Larsen each had RBI’s in the loss. Hunter Guzy went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
