Milaca VFW dropped a doubleheader to Cathedral, but topped Litchfield 6-2 last Thursday, June 19 and Friday, June 20 to move their record to 4-5 on the season.
Cathedral 7, Milaca 3
In the first game last Thursday in Milaca, the VFW boys lost 7-3 to Cathedral. Milaca took an early lead by scoring three runs in the first three innings. However, Cathedral added three in the fourth to take the lead and two more in the sixth to close out the four-run victory.
Matt Fransen was 2-for-4 at the plate for Milaca on the day. Calvin Manthie had a hit and a run in the game. Sam Larsen pitched 5.2 innings on the mound for Milaca, and struck out seven. Peyton Talberg came in for 1.1 innings of relief and allowed just one hit and no runs.
Cathedral 14, Milaca 7
In game two on Thursday, Milaca again jumped out to an early lead as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first to go up 3-2.
The game was tied 5-5 after three innings, but Cathedral scored four in the fourth and six in the fifth to earn the big victory.
Milaca drew 10 walks off of Cathedral pitching.
Hunter Guzy went hitless for Milaca, but scored three runs, as he reached base in all his at-bats.
Sawyer Shephard and Steven Vanderhoff each had a pair of runs batted in (RBI) in the loss for Milaca.
Milaca 6, Litchfield 2
Milaca broke a four-game losing streak on Friday evening as they topped Litchfield 6-2 on the road.
At one point Milaca led 6-0, and their defense and pitching held up to earn the four-run win.
Fransen pitched six innings for Milaca on the mound. He struck out seven and allowed only two hits.
Larsen went 1-for-3 with two RBI, and Logan Majerus was 2-for-3 with two runs. Talberg added a pair of hits.
