Milaca’s newly reformed VFW baseball team began their season with a pair of non-league doubleheaders and two league games recently.
The VFW team split with Albany on Monday, June 2 in two five-inning affairs to kick off their campaign. Last Thursday, Milaca toppled Braham twice in another pair of five-inning games. Last Monday Milaca recorded their toughest loss to date, falling 12-0 to Cold Spring in their opening league date. They lost 3-1 in the second game that day.
On June 2 Milaca topped Albany 2-1 in the first game of the season.
Wyatt Foss went 1-for-2 with a run batted in (RBI) for Milaca. Matt Fransen tossed all five innings for Milaca, striking out six and allowing only one hit.
In game two it was Albany that gained the upper hand and went on to win 5-1. Peyton Talberg did all he could for Milaca by going 2-for-3, getting both Milaca hits.
Last Thursday went better for Milaca as they topped Braham twice in a non-league doubleheader.
It was a tight first contest as Milaca squeaked by a 1-0 victory. Jimmy Kragt went 2-for-2 with an RBI in the win for Milaca. Sam Larsen threw a two-hitter, as he struck out 10 in five innings.
The offense exploded for Milaca in game two as Milaca went on to top Braham 14-1.
Hunter Guzy led Milaca with a strong day at the dish. He went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Foss went 2-for-3 with four RBI in the win.
Things took a dip for Milaca last Monday as they dropped their first league game of the season 12-0 to Cold Spring in five innings.
Raliegh Millar had the only two Milaca hits as he was perfect at the plate on the day. However, Cold Spring scored six runnings in the third inning to help catapult them to a victory.
The Milaca VFW team finished their first week 3-3 after falling 3-1 to Cold Spring in the second game of the day last Monday. Blake Kiel drove in the lone run for Milaca. Talberg had the lone hit for Milaca. Fransen pitched all five innings for Milaca.
