After a successful 11-6 season was derailed in the semifinals of the sub-section tournament, the Milaca Wolves season ended.
However, it was an accomplished one and they recently announced their season award winners.
Thirteen players were letterwinners for the Wolves, including captains Natalie Bernard, Orianna Scherer and Alex Ploeger. Bernard and Scherer were both seniors and it was Bernard’s second season as a captain.
Scherer was also named most improved player after she hit .364 and smashed 14 RBI while starting all 17 games for Milaca.
Pitcher Hannah Johnson, a junior, was named Defensive Player of the Year as she struck out 153 batters in 111 innings pitched.
Bernard was the batting champ for the Wolves after hitting .554 with five each of doubles, triples and home runs.
Junior Rachel Airhart was the 2014 hustler award recipient for her hard work and dedication throughout the season.
Five players were named to the All-Conference teams, and two more were honorable mentions. Bernard, Ploeger, Johnson, Kristina Loegering and Airhart were all named as All-Conference selections. Scherer was an honorable mention along with junior first baseman Makenzie Horrigan. The good news for Milaca is that four of the five are juniors.
