Milaca High School student Erin Hackenmueller medaled at the Minnesota Class A State Speech meet on Friday, April 11.
Hackenmueller made the most out of her first trip to the state meet, finishing in second place behind East Grand Fork’s Ruben Flores in the serious interpretation-prose competition.
Also competing for Milaca at the state meet was Ashley Cope, who was representing the school at state for the second time. Cope,
Milaca headed into subsections at Cathedral High School on Monday, March 31, with a team of 17. Fourteen speakers qualified for sections and competed Saturday, April 5, in Melrose, French said.
It’s at that section meet that Hackenmueller and Cope were among the top three finishers in their divisions and earned state berths.
The girls moved on to the state tournament after Hackenmueller placed second in prose at sections and Cope placed third at subsections in poetry, French said. Making finals and placing fifth at sections was Aurora Binsfeld in Drama.
