Wrestlers top Princeton, advance to 7AA semifinals

Milaca’s wrestling team advanced to the semifinals of the Section 7AA Team Tournament by topping Princeton 40-23 Tuesday night in the South Sub-Section Tournament at Chisago Lakes.

Milaca, which boosted its record to 21-9, was seeded No. 1 in the South Sub-Section.

Princeton, seeded No. 4 in the South Sub-Section, defeated No.-5 seeded North Branch 48-26 in the first round Tuesday. Mora, seeded No. 3, handled No. 6-seeded Pine City-Hinckley-Finlayson 68-12 in the other opening-round match.

Mora then stopped No. 2-seeded Chisago Lakes 36-31 to advance to Friday’s semifinals. Chisago Lakes was the defending 7AA champion.

Milaca will face Hibbing while Mora will meet Grand Rapids in the semifinals of the Section 7AA meet at Cloquet Friday at 5 p.m.

The championship match is Friday at 7:30, at Cloquet. The winner will advance to the Class AA State Team Tournament.

Hibbing, seeded No. 3 in the North Sub-Section, defeated No. 6-seeded Proctor 78-6 and No. 2-seeded Cloquet-Esko 69-12 Tuesday at Virginia while Grand Rapids, seeded No. 1 in the North Sub-Section, topped No. 4-seeded Rush City-Braham 67-9.
