Sept. 2 will be the first day of the new 2014-15 school year for Milaca Public Schools, and graduation will be May 29, 2015.
Those are a couple of the highlights of the calendar that the Milaca School Board approved Jan. 21.
Sept. 2 is the day after Labor Day. By then, staff members will have already been in the schools preparing. The new teachers will have workshops Aug. 20 and 21 and the regular teacher workshops will be Aug. 25-27. The next workshop will be Friday, Sept. 26, with no classes that day.
There will be no school Oct. 16 and 17 as a break for the Education Minnesota Conference. School conferences will be Oct. 20, and the end of the first quarter will be Oct. 30, followed by a teacher workshop and no school for students Oct. 31.
Here are the highlights for the rest of that school year:
•November – Conferences will be on Nov. 3, 6 and 10, a teacher workshop/no school day will be on Nov. 14, and Thanksgiving break is Nov. 27-28.
•December – A workshop/no school day is on Dec. 22, with the winter break kicking in the next day to continue the rest of the month.
•January – The holiday break continues Jan. 1-2. The end of the quarter will be Jan. 16, with a workshop/no school day planned for Jan. 19.
•February – A workshop/no school day is on Feb. 13, and there’s no school on Feb. 16.
•March – Conferences are March 2 and 5, and there’s no school March 6 and 9. The end of quarter is March 25.
•April – Workshop/no school is set for April 2, with no school April 3 and 6.
•May – No school May 22 and 25. Curriculum work is set for May 27, so students leave at 12:15 p.m. May 28 is the last day of the 2014-15 school year, followed by the next day’s graduation on Friday, May 29.
