Milaca went 3-1 and placed second at the Mounds View Mustangs Duals Saturday.
That showing came one day after the Wolves topped Mora 43-22 in a Granite Ridge Conference match at Milaca.
“The win over Mora was a good section victory for us,” said co-head coach Mitch Vedders. “Mora has a solid team and we were able to win some key matches.”
Eighth-grader Jon Hall at 106 pounds, senior Ray Hoffman at 120, junior Hunter Noor at 126, junior Aaron Moscho at 160 and junior Josh Otten at 182 notched pins for the Wolves. Junior Jack Barsody at 152 and senior heavyweight Brandon Merten won key decisions while sophomore Dru Kuchenbaker scored a technical fall at 138 and junior Colton Sailor won a decision at 220.
At Mounds View, Milaca topped North Branch 34-33,Maple Grove 53-15 and Dassel-Cokato 49-18 before losing to Owatonna 49-20 in the finals.
Owatonna, ranked No. 6 in The Guillotine magazine’s Class AAA ratings, broke the match open by scoring pins at the final three weights.
Hall at 106 and Otten at 170 went 4-0 in the tournament while Hoffman at 120, Noor at 126, Kuchenbaker at 138, Barsody at 145, Weidner at 182 and Sailor at 220 each went 3-1.
“We wrestled well overall and we had some good matches with Owatonna,” said co-head coach Clay Hoeck
Milaca, 15-5 in duals, travels to Becker for a non-conference match Friday at 7:30 p.m.
