Milaca overcame a 10-point deficit early in the first half and went on to trim Mora 68-56 in a Granite Ridge Conference boys basketball game Thursday, Jan. 9, at Mora.
The Wolves rallied to take a 38-33 halftime lead, then outscored the Mustangs 30-23 in the second half.
“We started out slow – it showed that we had missed a game and some practice time because of the school being closed for two days,” said coach Dustin Naumann. “But we played better as the game went on and it was a nice conference win.”
Milaca had five players reach double figures. Senior center Matt VanSomeren had 14 points, junior forward Nic Wolbert had 13, junior forward Mike Garber had 12 and senior guards Justin Fransen and Brian Kiel each scored 10 points. Junior guard Levi Hunt added seven points.
VanSomeren also had 12 rebounds.
Milaca, 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the GRC, is at Albany Friday night at 7:30.
Note: Milaca defeated Little Falls 57-53 Monday night at Milaca. Details from that game will be in next week’s Times.
