The Mora-Milaca-Hinckley-Finlayson boys hockey team had its offense in high gear last week as it totaled 15 goals in a pair of Two Rivers Conference victories.
The Mustangs trimmed St. Paul Highland Park 9-0 Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Mora Civic Arena, then stopped North Branch 6-1 Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Chisago Lakes Ice Arena in Lindstrom.
“It was great to get a pair of conference wins,” said coach Jon Samuelson. “Overall, we played very well in both games.
The Mustangs fired off 58 shots against Highland Park.
Senior forward Thomas Pasillas scored a hat trick, with all three of his goals coming in the second period. Forward Jake Anderson, a ninth-grader, scored his first career goal.
Junior goalie Tanner Baxley notched the shutout.
Senior forward Justin Kneiszler scored a hat trick against North Branch and also notched a pair of assists. Senior defenseman Hunter Wedin scored twice on power plays while junior forward Christian Leeb had the Mustangs’ other goal.
Sophomore goalie Teddy Blenkush stopped 10 of 11 shots.
Sophomore defenseman Nathan Hass had an assist in both of last week’s victories.
The Mustangs lead the Two Rivers Conference with a 4-1 record and eight points and have an overall mark of 4-3.
Mora-Milaca-Hinckley-Finlayson will compete at the Silver Bay Tournament Dec. 26, 27, 28. The Mustangs will face Ely in their first game Thursday, Dec. 26, at 3 p.m., at the Rukavina Arena.
“It should be a well-balanced tournament,” said Samuelson. “If we play hard we have a chance to win it.”
