Athletes from Milaca High School are once again playing varsity hockey!
The Mora-Milaca-Hinckley-Finlayson Mustangs, who include three players from Milaca, will open their season by hosting Moose Lake Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the Mora Civic Center, at 7:30 p.m.
Milaca has joined a cooperative with Mora-Hinckley-Finlayson. Mora has had a hockey program for many years.
Milaca has previously joined in hockey cooperatives with Becker-Big Lake, and most recently, Princeton.
The three Milaca players on this year’s team are defenseman Nathan Hass, goalie Teddy Blenkush and forward Hunter Johnson. All are sophomores.
“Practice has been going great,” said Mustangs coach Jon Samuelson. “The players have put in a lot of effort and have shown great positive attitudes.”
Mora-Hinckley-Finlayson posted a 13-12 record last season, with two of its victories coming against Moose Lake (8-0 at Mora and 13-0 at Moose Lake).
Both teams are members of the Two Rivers Conference.
“Moose Lake is an opponent we know well,” said Samuelson. “We’re hoping to open the season with a victory but it will take hard work and team play.
“Moose Lake has a new coach, so you never know what he may bring to the table.”
The Mora Civic Arena is located next to the Kanabec County Fairgrounds, just north of Highway 23 when entering Mora.
The Mustangs are at Pequot Lakes Thursday, Dec. 5, at 7 o’clock.
