After placing fifth a year ago, Milaca moved up a couple places and finished third at the 2013 Granite Ridge Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at Sartell High School.
“We felt Foley would win the title and Little Falls would come in second, so we were hoping to get third place – and we did!” said co-head coach Jennifer Burroughs. “We were able to edge out Becker.”
Foley won the GRC title by scoring 537 points. Little Falls was second with 497 points followed by Milaca with 342, Becker with 337, fifth-place Albany with 316, sixth-place Cathedral-St. John’s Prep with 216 and seventh-place Ogilvie-Mora with 41 points.
“The girls performed well in all their events,” said Burroughs. “Overall, it was a great meet and we’re proud of our third-place finish.
“We’re looking forward to the section meet.”
Junior BryAnna Paulson and senior Sarah Forker earned all-conference honors.
Paulson won the diving event with a score of 337.20 points, a conference record.
“BryAnna is a great competitor,” said Burroughs. “She has been consistent with her dives all season.”
Sophomore Gabby Lyter of Little Falls was second with a score of 323.60.
Forker placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.13 seconds.
“Sarah has had a very good season and continued with another great effort Saturday,” said Burroughs.
Foley ninth-grader Kasey Milstroh won the event in 24.92.
Several Milaca entrants earned all-conference honorable mention honors.
-Junior Rachel Airhart placed fourth in the 50 freestyle while junior Tara Airhart was fourth in diving and senior Ori Scherer placed fourth in the 100 butterfly.
-The team of junior Ashley Cassens, Tara Airhart, Rachel Airhart and Forker placed second in the 200 freestyle relay while the team of Cassens, seventh-grader Chloe Hendrickson, Forker and Rachel Airhart placed second in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Wolves will compete at the Section 5A Championships Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9 at Sauk Rapids High School.
