The Faith Christian School volleyball team wasn’t at full strength last week but the Saints still scored a pair of victories as they boosted their season record to 12-5.
Faith Christian topped Valley Christian 3-1 Tuesday, Oct. 8, at FCS, then handled Hope Christian Friday, Oct. 11, in South St. Paul. The Saints were without ace setter seventh-grader Lauren Curott against Valley Christian and hitter/blocker junior Ashley Johnson against Hope Christian.
“We were able to compensate for their absence ,” said FCS Coach Mike Sohre. “Sophomore Tiffany Crapser did a good job filling in for Curott and the team showed good balance in Ashley’s absence.”
The Saints dropped the first game against Valley Christian, 25-18, but bounced back with three-straight wins, 25-20, 25-13 and 25-17.
Johnson was 25-28 serving with 14 aces and she had 17 digs and nine kills. Senior Faith Britton was 13-14 serving with seven aces and she had 18 digs and six kills while senior Lauren Freichels was 17-20 serving with five kills and she had 21 digs and four kills. Crapser was 11-13 serving and she had eight sets.
The Saints stopped Hope Christian 3-2. Faith Christian won the first two games 25-6, 25-6 before Hope rallied to win the next two 25-18, 25-18. FCS took the deciding fifth game 15-5.
Freichels was 28-29 serving with nine aces and she notched 43 digs. Crapser was 35-39 serving with 15 aces and she had 17 digs. Britton had 19 digs and 14 kills while junior Ashley Nordvik was 13-13 serving and had 25 digs.
Curott was back in the lineup and had 18 sets.
FCS hosts Calvin Christian today (Thursday), then closes the regular season by hosting Redstorm of Grand Rapids Tuesday, Oct. 22.
