Zion Lutheran Church, with support from the Pearl Crisis Center, will host an open forum on domestic abuse from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28.
A limited number of tickets will be sold for people concerned or curious about domestic violence.
In conjunction with the observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a presentation will be made to illustrate the effect on victims and families caught in abusive relationships.
The program will highlight the latest book by local author Dave Holmes, “Grace and Acceptance: Anatomy of living with domestic abuse and recovering.” The presentation will detail how abusive relationships have affected the victims’ lives and how some take extreme measures to leave the situation.
Speakers will show how their involvement with survivors of domestic abuse impacted the victims and their families, as well as the criminal aspect and prosecution of abusers, and offer an emotional speech by a survivor.
Artwork by St. Cloud photographer Erica Ann Isaacson will be on display, and the Pearl Crisis Center’s annual candlelight vigil honoring the slain victims of abuse will be conducted.
A short video of one woman’s story will also be shown.
Tickets are $25 with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Pearl and other agencies that have contributed to the book. Ticket holders will receive a copy of the book at the door and an opportunity to speak with a credited advisor in person or privately.
For tickets, contact Holmes at [email protected] or 320-362-0619 or the Pearl Crisis Center at 235 Second St. SW, Suite 105, Milaca or 320-982-2901.
The Zion Lutheran Church is located at 245 Central Ave. S., Milaca.
