Looking for a new book to read? If so, you might want to visit Milaca’s newest “library.”
Members from the Rum River Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans donated a Little Free Library to the Milaca community.
A Little Free Library is a place where community members can exchange books free of charge to promote the love of reading. The “take a book, return a book” system makes it easy for everyone to benefit.
The Community Engagement Team from Thrivent Financial built the new Milaca library, located at the intersection of Third Street and Second Avenue, with sponsorship from Thrivent Financial Milaca representatives Chris Ehlen and Doug Halvorson.
“This aligns well with our mission,” said Ehlen. “As a not-for-profit looking to inspire generosity, when we can support an effort building community and bringing people together to share their gifts, it makes what we do so much more meaningful.”
The mission of Little Free Library is to promote literacy and the love of reading by building free books exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community through sharing skills, creativity and wisdom across generations. The mission of Thrivent is to strengthen Christian communities by helping members be wise with money and inspiring them to live generously.
Through its chapter programs, Thrivent Financial members come together in service to help their communities and congregations. Members are able to use Thrivent Financial dollars to add to the funds raised at an activity or to purchase materials for service projects, while energizing other members and volunteers to provide help that otherwise would not be available.
