Pierz tops Milaca in football opener

Pierz, leading 13-7 at halftime, broke the game open by outscoring Milaca 27-0 in the second half as it trimmed the Wolves 40-7 in the football opener for both teams Thursday night at Pierz.

Milaca’s lone touchdown came on a 10-yard pass play from junior quarterback Mike Garber to senior wide receiver Trevor Roelofs in the second quarter.

The Wolves begin Granite Ridge Conference play Friday, Sept. 6, at Foley.

In other area games Thursday night, Monticello topped Princeton 20-6, Braham defeated Ogilvie 30-0, Hutchinson tipped Becker 16-13 in overtime, Holdingford edged St. Cloud Cathedral 22-19 and Cambridge-Isanti topped Duluth Denfeld 34-0.
