Second-seeded Annandale rolled past seventh-seeded Milaca 73-43 in the quarterfinals of the Section 5AA North Sub-Section Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday night at Annandale.
Junior guard Justin Fransen led the Wolves with 14 points while junior forward Matt Miller led the Cardinals with 22 points.
Milaca finished with a 7-19 record while Annandale will take a 17-9 record into the semifinals Saturday (March 9) where it will face sixth-seeded Maple Lake, a 79-73 winner over Foley Thursday night at Foley.
In other quarterfinal games Thursday, No. 1-seeded St. Cloud Cathedral rolled over No. 8-seeded Spectrum 73-42 and No. 5-seeded Kimball tipped No. 4-seeded Rockford 47-46.
In semifinal games Saturday at Buffalo High School, Cathedral meets Kimball at 6 while Annandale faces Maple Lake at 8.
The North-Sub-Section title game is Tuesday, March 12, at Dassel-Cokato High School at 6 o’clock.
In the South Sub-Section of 5AA Thursday, No. 1-seeded Jordan edged No. 8-seeded Providence Academy 65-60, No. 4-seeded Mayer Lutheran topped No. 5-seeded Norwood-Young America 52-37, No. 3-seeded Glencoe-Silver Lake defeated No. 6-seeded Watertown-Mayer 71-62 and No. 2-seeded Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted slipped past No. 7-seeded Sibley East 84-83 in overtime.
In semifinals games Saturday at Dassel-Cokato High School, Jordan meets Mayer Lutheran at 6 and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted faces Glencoe-Silver Lake at 8.
The South Sub-Section title game is March 12 at Dassel-Cokato at 8.
The Section 5AA championship game is Friday, March 15 at 6:30 at St. Cloud State University’s Halenbeck Hall.
