Faith Christian School’s basketball teams both went unbeaten last week as they picked up momentum heading into the Christian Athletic League Tournament this week at Mankato.
The FCS girls went 2-0 to boost their record to 16-7 while the FCS boys went 3-0 to move their season mark to 7-19.
The CAL Tournament begins today (Thursday) and continues Friday and Saturday. Both Faith Christian teams placed fourth at the tournament last year.
The Faith Christian girls defeated Valley Christian of St. Croix Falls, Wis., twice last week, winning 53-36 at home Feb. 25 and 62-39 Friday at Valley Christian.
Senior guard Madde Brown led the Saints in their home-court victory as she scored 16 points and had eight assists. Sophomore center Ashley Johnson had 15 points and 25 rebounds while senior forward Jamie Nelson scored 14 points and had 24 rebounds.
In the win at Valley Christian Nelson and Johnson each scored 20 points, with Johnson grabbing 21 rebounds and Nelson 16. Brown added 10 points.
The FCS boys topped Valley Christian 63-28 at FCS Feb. 25 as senior guard Paul Selin scored 23 points, senior forward Micah Andrews had 21 and senior center Cullen Curott had 14.
On Tuesday, Feb. 26, the Saints handled Northland Baptist of St. Cloud 55-44.
Andrews scored 24 points and hauled down a FCS single-game record 23 rebounds. Selin had 19 points while Curott had 12 points and a career high 17 rebounds and five blocked shots.
The Saints trimmed Valley Christian 67-31 Friday in St. Croix Falls behind their “big three” once again.
Andrews scored 21 points while Curott had 20 and Selin 18. Andrews also had 19 rebounds while Curott had 15.
