Chisago Lakes tops Milaca in section finals
Chisago Lakes topped Milaca 40-23 in the finals of the Section 7AA Wrestling Tournament Friday night, Feb. 15, at Pine City.
The victory earned the Wildcats a trip to the Class AA State Team Tournament.
For the Wolves, junior Ray Hoffman scored a pin at 120 pounds while senior Joey Curtis notched a pin at 126. Junior Jorgen Erickson at 160 and sophomore Austin Weidner at 182 won major decisions while sophomore Jack Barsody won a decision at 145.
In the semifinals matches, Milaca defeated Grand Rapids 40-27 and Chisago Lakes topped Hibbing 54-16.
Milaca, the defending 7AA champion, finished with a 21-11 record.
The Wolves will competed at the Section 7AA Individual Tournament Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23, at Hibbing.
In other area section finals Friday, Pierz topped Holdingford 39-18 to win the Section 7A title and Foley stopped Becker 35-13 to win the Section 6AA title.
