An Onamia Elementary School teacher has been arrested and awaits third and fourth degree criminal sexual conduct charges stemming from an accusation of sexual contact with a 17-year-old student.
Adam Michael Lee, 33, of Milaca, was arrested last week after the school’s liaison officer was notified of a journal entry made on a school computer that described a sexual relationship between a student and teacher.
A minor female was questioned about the journal entry and told investigators she and Lee had sexual intercourse during winter break and again in January. The girl told police both times Lee had picked her up at her home and had sex with her in his car.
When questioned by police, Lee asked to speak to an attorney.
John Varner, Onamia Superintendent, issued a press release concerning the charges Friday, Feb. 8.
“In light of the recent charges filed by the Mille Lacs County Attorney’s Office, Onamia Public Schools has placed Adam Lee on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” the release stated. “The district’s employees are deeply concerned for the privacy and comfort of the alleged victim and the alleged victim’s family at this difficult time.”
The charges carry additional punishments as Lee was in a position of authority over the student. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in jail and up to $50,000 in fines.
