Milaca will receive a bye in the first round of the Section 7AA, South Sub-Section Wrestling Tournament Tuesday, Feb. 12, at North Branch.
It was announced today (Friday) that the Wolves were seeded No. 2 in the South Sub-Section. Chisago Lakes, which defeated Milaca 31-29 Jan. 8, at Chisago Lakes, was seeded No. 1 by coaches and will also receive an opening-round bye. North Branch was seeded No. 3, Mora No. 4, Pine City-Hinckley-Finlayson No. 5 and Rush City No. 6
North Branch will meet Rush City and Mora will face Pine City-Hinckley Finlayson in first-round matches at 5 p.m. Feb. 12.
Milaca will face the North Branch-Rush City winner and Chisago Lakes will meet the Mora-Pine City-H-F winner at 7 o’clock Feb. 12.
The winners of the 7 o’clock matches will advance the Section 7AA Tournament Friday, Feb. 15, at Pine City where they will be joined by the top two teams from the 7AA North Sub-Section.
Grand Rapids was seeded No. 1 and Hibbing No. 2 in the North Sub-Section which will also take place Feb. 12.
Milaca, the defending Section 7AA champion, takes a 19-10 record into the sub-section tournament. Chisago Lakes is 15-6, with matches scheduled tonight (Friday) against Robbinsdale Cooper and Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
Mora finished its dual season 13-9 while North Branch was 14-9 heading into its final match tonight against Totino Grace.
Milaca completed its dual season Thursday, Feb. 7, at a quadrangular at Sauk Rapids-Rice. The Wolves lost to Atwater-Grove City-Cosmos 50-19 and Brainerd 40-26 before defeating Sauk Rapids-Rice 50-22.
ACGC is ranked No. 2 in Class A and was unbeaten before losing to Brainerd 39-32 in the final round of the quad.
