School launches reading program

Reading pep fest

Social studies teacher Mitch Vedders seeks advice from “astronauts” assistant principal Jeff Meyer and principal Steve Voshell on how to get his “planets” (teachers and staff to the left) into shape during a pep fest this past Friday.

Milaca Elementary School kicked off its annual reading incentive program last week with a a pep fest for the kindergarten through sixth grade students in observance of February’s I Love To Read month.

This year’s theme is “Reading is Out of This World” and the event featured teachers and staff in astronaut and planet costumes, a video clip of the lunar landing and a science experiment performed by high school teacher Erik Sivertson.

If students meet their reading goal of $6,000 hours for the month, Principal Steve Voshell and Assistant Principal Jeff Meyer will be “slimmed” by space goo at a wrap-up pep fest in March.
