Two men have been arrested following a burglary at an Isle business two weeks ago.
The Mille Lacs County Sheriffs Office assisted the Isle Police Department after a burglary alarm sounded around 3:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at Bayview Bar and Grill.
When officers arrived at the establishment, they found burglary tools near the front door, which had been pried open. Inside, they found damage to two electronic pull tab machines. Law enforcement reviewed surveillance footage that showed two suspects dressed in camouflage with hoods covering their heads. No one was found in the building.
Shortly after clearing the bar, officers investigated a suspicious vehicle parked nearby. They followed two sets of fresh tracks near the vehicle. A K-9 unit was called in to assist in locating the suspects. An area resident on 385th Street had also reported two men in camouflage had stopped and asked for directions to Milaca.
The officers, along with Tribal Police and State Patrol, located the men, who failed to comply with multiple instructions to stop running. The K-9 was sent to apprehend the suspects.
George Alan VanZee, 45, and William Donald Buchan, 29, both of Le Center, Minn. were placed under arrest. Both men were transported to Mille Lacs Hospital and treated for hypothermia. VanZee was also treated for a K-9 bite before both were taken to the Mille Lacs County Jail.
Both men have been charged with possessing burglary tools, third degree burglary and fleeing a peace officer on foot. They face more than 15 years in jail and up to $30,000 in fines.
