Snowstorm creates winter wonderland
As much as 12 to 16 inches of snow accumulated in the Milaca area throughout the day. At least three accidents were reported in the area on Sunday, none with serious injuries.
Area schools, including Milaca and Princeton, were two-hours late Monday morning as crews continued to remove snow from highways and city streets.
Milaca Public Works Director Steve Burklund said all four vehicles the city has to remove snow were clearing roads from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday and from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.
“The whole crew is out today,” Burklund said Tuesday, as he and other drivers were clearing the airport and cleaning up after people had moved their vehicles from the streets. Jim’s Mille Lacs Disposal also had four trucks removing snow and dumping it near 10th Street in the Industrial Park.
After last year’s mild winter that required the services of Milaca snow plow operators only three times, the recent snowstorm reminded motorists of a more typical Minnesota winter storm.
