Milaca graduate Robert Sumner has been hired as full-time coordinator for Milaca Community Education.
The School Board hired Sumner, a 2003 graduate, at its Oct. 16 meeting after interviewing 5 people for the job.
Sumner has been working at Central Michigan University where he did event planning and coordination, and helped run athletic camps.
He had been at CMU six months after getting his bachelor’s degree at St. Cloud State University and then getting a master’s degree at SCSU.
Sumner needs to complete his license to be a community education director and plans to do that by the end of this school year. Former director Damian Patnode, now the high school principal, will be director through the end of this school year.
Activities director Jerry Westphal has been managing Community Education activities since July 1, duties that Patnode took over on Oct. 9.
In another phase of restructuring the Community Education office, a half-time administrative assistant was hired.
That position was formerly a full-time one but this past summer the person who held that position resigned.
