Faith Christian tops Valley Christian
Faith Christian School broke a 1-1 tie and won the final two games as it scored a 3-1 volleyball victory last Friday at Valley Christian in St. Croix Falls, Wis.
The Saints won the opening game 25-14, with Valley Christian scoring a 25-19 win in the second game. FCS sealed the victory by taking the final two games 25-15, 25-16.
“The girls arrived with a really great attitude and spirit,” said Faith Christian Coach Mike Sohre. “They played very well except for a brief lack of focus during a nine-point serve run by Valley in the second game while put us down 22-10.
“We recovered and managed to battle back to cut the deficit to a final 25-19. That battling back was important as it provided the fire for us to dominate the next two games and finish the match with a solid win. The win was even more impressive because we were missing starters Ashley Johnson and Katie Anderson.”
Lauren Freichels led the Saints as she was 34-36 serving with 15 aces and she had six kills and 25 digs. Ashley Nordvik was 15-17 serving with seven aces and she had 14 digs while Korrina Rauschendorfer was 10-13 serving with two aces and she had 25 digs.
Carlyn Ross was 8-10 serving with three aces and she had three kills, eight digs and six sets. Madde Brown was 7-8 serving with two aces and she had four kills and 17 digs while Tiffany Crapser was 8-9 serving and she had six digs.
“Lauren, Korrina and Madde had stellar performances – Lauren was on fire.”
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, Cambridge Christian stopped the Saints 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-15) at FCS.
“We played a very spirited and competitive first set but couldn’t hold on at the end,” said Sohre. “Cambridge then came back to handle us pretty good in the final two games.”
Freichels was 13-14 serving with three aces and she notched 16 dings while Brown was 7-7 serving and had 12 digs. Ross was 7-7 serving and she had 11 digs and three sets while Nordvik was 4-5 serving and had eight digs. Johnson was 4-5 serving and had eight digs and Rauschendorfer had 13 digs.
The Saints will now prepare for the Christian Athletic League Tournament Oct. 26-27 at Valley Christian.
