Relays lead Wolves in narrow loss
Milaca and Little Falls waged a close battle in a Granite Ridge Conference girls swimming and diving dual Thursday, Oct. 4, with the Flyers eventually scoring a 97-89 victory at Little Falls.
The Wolves placed first in six events, including all three relay events.
In the relays:
•Sarah Forker, Sami Mitchell, Orianna Scherer and Tara Airhart won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:06.30. The Flyers were second in 2:06.48.
•Tara Airhart, Ashley Cassens, Rachel Airhart and Forker combined for a first-pace finish in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.53. Little Falls was second in 1:51.13 and Milaca’s team of Hannah Johnson, Becca Johnson, Mitchell and Clair Coffee placed third in 1:57.87.
•Cassens, Scherer, Coffee and Rachel Airhart won the 400 freestyle relay in 4:12.18. Little Falls was second in 4:19.66.
The Wolves’ other first places were scored by:
•Forker, who won the 50 freestyle in 26.68 and the diving event with a score of 172.65.
Tara Airhart was second in the 50 freestyle in 27.41 while Coffee was fifth in 28.97.
BryAnna Paulson was second in diving with a score of 172.50.
•Rachel Airhart won the 200 freestyle in 2:15.60 and Cassens was third in 2:21.53.
Milaca’s other top placers were:
-Mitchell, who was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:40.62, and Scherer, who placed third in 2:44.18. Kirsten Holtz of Little Falls was first in 2:40.57.
-Rachel Airhart, who was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:13.69. Hannah Johnson was fifth in 1:22.57.
The Flyers’ Diana Kempenich was first in 1:11.30.
-Cassens, who was second in the 100 freestyle in 1:02.09. Coffee placed fifth in 1:04.63.
Makyla Klever of Little Falls was first in 1:01.69.
-Scherer, who placed second in the 500 freestyle in 6:30.56. Merissa Peterson was fifth in 7:03.49.
Mati Gold of Little Falls won the 500 in 6:13.36.
-Leah Crain, who was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:16.35. Paulson was second in 1:17.34.
The Flyers’ Savanna Slettom was first in 1:15.52.
-Mitchell, who was third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.75. Tara Airhart was fifth in 1:23.46.
Emily Stark of Little Falls was first in 1:17.43.
Milaca is at Cambridge-Isanti for a non-conference dual tonight (Thursday) at 6. The Wolves conclude their regular season by hosting Ogilvie in a non-conference dual Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 6.
