Pearl Crisis Center conducted a vigil and ceremony for the 16 Minnesotans killed by domestic partners and family members so far in 2012 in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month this past Thursday at Rec Park.

Safe Dates Coordinator Tearza Otto read a proclamation from President Barack Obama as well as a list of the names of victims.

Milaca Evangelical Free Church Pastor Dan Clausen gave a brief statement and prayer during the event.

Community residents and Teens Against Dating Abuse members dropped a pink or red rose, each representing one of the victims, into the Rum River near the walking bridge. As the flowers slowly floated down stream, those in attendance observed silence for the lives lost.
