A memorial service for LeRoy George Newgard, 67, of Milaca will be Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bock with the Rev. Beverly Robinson officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. at the church.
Leroy died Sept. 11 peacefully at his home near Bock surrounded by his family.
He was born Dec. 28, 1944 in Milaca to George and Maxine (Ellefson) Newgard. He grew up in the Bock area and graduated from Milaca High School.
LeRoy was united in marriage to Loretta Hennen on May 29, 1965 in Sioux Falls, S.D. LeRoy started work at a young age at many odd jobs until he started employment in the fall of 1964 for Mike McPhillips Co. as a sweeper operator. In 1976 he went to work for Bituminous Roadways doing road construction. He moved back to the Milaca area and started to farm while he still worked in the cities. In 1989 he followed a dream of purchasing the Bock Garage where he continued to run until his death.
LeRoy enjoyed farming, raising cattle, hunting, NASCAR racing, weekly oval dirt track racing with his sons, spending time with family and visiting with customers at the garage. He was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia on April 11, 2012. He fought a hard and courageous battle.
He is survived by is wife Loretta; children, Tamara (John) Kelash of Princeton, Curtis Newgard of Milaca, Christine (Thomas) Mitchell of Waynesville, Mo. and Kevin (Tracy) Newgard of Milaca; grandchildren, Michael, James and Daniel Mitchell, Jesse and Christopher Newgard, Whitney Poitra and Arianna Newgard; brothers, Dennis Newgard (friend Jean Trabant) of Milaca and Terry (Jean) Newgard of Milaca; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law.
