The Faith Christian School volleyball team dropped a pair of matches last week, falling to St. Cloud Christian 3-0 Tuesday, Sept. 4 and Chisago Lakes Christian 3-0 Friday., Sept 7.
Coach Mike Sohre cited inexperience as a factor in the setbacks.
“Our inexperience was evident,” said Sohre. “The more we play the experience we gain will help us play stronger each match, rather than letting down.
“For most of the girls the pressure of playing in a varsity setting has been a little intimidating. But, once they get to know how good they can be, things will turn around.”
St. Cloud Christian swept the Saints 25-18, 25-21 and 25-14.
“St. Cloud Christian is the newest member of our league and it has a good team,” said Sohre. “For the first match of the season I felt we played well.”
Senior Carlyn Ross was 13-13 serving with two aces and had 17 sets while junior Lauren Friechels was 13-16 serving with three aces and she also had 23 digs. Senior Madde Brown was 6-8 serving and had three kills and 19 digs. Sophomore Ashley Johnson had eight digs and eight sets.
Chisago Lakes topped FCS 25-19, 25-15 and 25-11.
“We dropped three games to a team similar to us in youth,” said Sohre. “They played with more confidence and court sense than we did.”
Friechels was 10-13 serving with four aces and she had 21 digs while Ross was 6-6 serving and had eight digs and 16 sets. Brown was 6-6 serving and added three kills and 16 digs. Johnson had 11 digs and nine sets.
The Saints are scheduled to play in the Granite City Tournament in St. Cloud Friday and Saturday.
