After 30 minutes of discussion about Community Ed staffing, a motion was made and seconded at the Aug. 21 Milaca School Board meeting to post for a Community Education director.
About 10 minutes later that motion was withdrawn and a meeting scheduled for Aug. 28 to discuss staffing for that department.
Damian Patnode, the new high school principal, is still listed as Community Education Director.
“But it would be difficult to be a full-time principal and continue in that position,” said Superintendent Jerry Hansen Monday.
What prompted last week’s discussion were the resignations of secretary Sarah Ploeger and teacher/coordinator Amy Milbrandt, Hansen finding out about Ploeger’s decision just a day before the meeting.
Both took jobs outside the district.
After that half hour of discussion at the meeting, board member Jody Chambers made a motion to post the director job, with Aimee Struffert seconding.
But discussion continued, Chambers withdrew her motion and the meeting for Tuesday of this week was set.
“For the past two years we’ve talked about the direction went want to go with Community Ed,” Hansen said Monday. “Are there other needs?”
Hansen said there is about $85,000 budgeted for the Community Ed operation.
“How do we want to use that amount, maybe to restructure Community Ed?” he said. “What direction do we want to go? Maybe we need to look at it differently.”
The meeting on Tuesday of this week was scheduled to be a meeting of the whole board so action could be taken to post a position if that’s what is decided.
