Milaca Scholarship Foundation turns 25
An organization that has helped area graduates realize their college dreams is observing its own milestone.
The Milaca Scholarship Foundation is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and marking the more than $1 million it has distributing through the Dollars for Scholars college scholarships it has issued to area high school graduates during the years.
“That’s why we were in the parade this year,” said MSF board member Becky Bergstrom. “What a tremendous opportunity for a small community to give over $1 million in just 25 years.”
What began in 1987 with $3,450 in awards given to nine recipients has grown into the organization it is today, with 65 scholarships awarded this past year for a total of $55,250.
“We’re trying to make sure that we’re allowing everyone to have an opportunity if possible,” Bergstrom said. “We have quality people running this organization. That’s why it’s kept to high standards.”
MSF’s largest fundraising event, the Ultra Golf Classic, is slated for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. Participants can pre-register by calling Stones Throw Golf Course at 320-983-2110 or the day of the event from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.
Cost is $45 for club members and $60 for the public for the nine-hole, shotgun start competition. Dinner is $20. An auction and wine tasting will also be available.
Don’t have time for golf? Make a donation of any size, or develop an endowment for the Milaca Scholarship Foundation by calling Larry Karels at 320-983-0919.
