Locals help to ‘Save Milaca Theatre’

Jayden Doffing, 3, is pleased with the rainbow hair-do Milaca Tanning’s Brenda Hoen gave her. Cuts on Central also provided wacky hair colors during the day, with all proceeds going toward the theater.

Dozens of area volunteers and local businesses made the ‘Save the Milaca Theatre’ fundraising event last Thursday afternoon possible.

A slide donated by the First National Bank of Milaca, disposal bins donated by Jim’s Disposal, music provided by RETI2DJ’s Mike Van Heel and wacky hair-dos provided by Cuts on Central and Milaca Tanning ensured there was plenty of fun to be had by all.

A dunk tank also offered participants the chance to drench Mille Lacs County Sheriff Brent Lindgren, High School Principal Damian Patnode, school liaison officer Jeff Shaw, Milaca Fire Chief Greg Weller and several other area deputies and police officers.

The event was organized to help the local cinema pay for a costly digital conversion that is slated to take effect this fall. Without the generation donations of community members and businesses, the theater’s owners, Josh and Brigid Halberg, are afraid they may have to close the longtime entertainment staple.
