Teacher captures Venus’ travels

Milaca science teacher John Shipman took this photo of Venus moving between the sun and the Earth last Tuesday, June 5 with his Nikon D90 attached to one of the Milaca Public Schools telescopes used in the high school astronomy class. “The sunset image was very difficult to focus with a tiny window of time as the sun sank out of sight,” Shipman said. “At sunset, we have to look through… between 300-400 miles of atmosphere, moisture, dust and whatever clouds are in the way. So I’m really happy with these results.” This was the last time Venus’ travel across the sun will be visible from Earth for more than 100 years.
