Ninth-grader Noel Flor shot a 40 and senior Brandon Kiel had a 41 to lead Milaca’s boys golf team at a nine-hole Granite Ridge Conference meet Thursday, May 10, at Stones Throw Golf Course in Milaca.
The Wolves finished in fourth place in another close GRC meet.
Zimmerman won the meet with a score of 160 while St. Cloud Cathedral placed second at 166, Little Falls was third at 167 and Milaca was fourth at 172. Princeton placed fifth at 173, Mora was sixth at 180 and Foley was seventh at 195.
Ninth-grader Michael Nelson shot a 45 for the Wolves, sophomore Luke Dillan shot a 46, ninth-grader Leif Larson had a 47 and sophomore Jared Gould shot a 48.
“We played pretty well on our home course,” said Milaca Coach Doug Reetz. “We’re still striving to be more consistent. We are improving.”
Milaca also placed fourth in an 18-hole GRC meet Monday, May 7, at Princeton.
Zimmerman edged Cathedral by a point to claim first place, with the Thunder finishing at 327 and the Crusaders posting a score of 328. Little Falls had a score of 334, with the Wolves posting a score of 349. Princeton was fifth at 356, followed by Foley at 370 and Mora at 381.
Flor paced Milaca with an 80 as he finished fifth in the individual standings. Kiel shot an 84 and ended in a four-way tie for eighth place.
Nelson finished at 92, Gould shot a 93, Dillan finished at 94 and eighth-grader Sam Johnson finished at 105.
After last week’s play, Cathedral led the GRC standings with 39 points, with Zimmerman second with 37. Little Falls was third with 27, Princeton fourth with 24 points, Milaca fifth with 23, Foley sixth with 10 and Mora seventh with eight.
Milaca completes GRC play Monday, May 21, with a meet at Wapicada Golf Course east of Sauk Rapids. The meet begins at noon.
