Kiel pitches Wolves past Ogilvie
Sophomore right-hander Brian Kiel pitched a two-hitter to lead Milaca past Ogilvie 12-2 in a non-conference baseball game Thursday, April 26, at Milaca.
Kiel allowed a pair of singles while walking two and striking out 3. Both Ogilvie runs were unearned.
“Brian had a great outing,” said Milaca Coach Craig Talberg. “He was in control all the way.
“And, we gave him a cushion with some runs. It was a good game for us.”
The Wolves scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game by the 10-run rule.
Milaca had just four hits but it took advantage of 13 walks and four Ogilvie errors.
Sophomores Matt VanSomeren and Justin Fransen each had a double while Kiel and junior Michael McLouth each had a single, with McLouth driving in two runs.
The victory boosted the Wolves to a 2-6 record. Milaca hosts Foley today (Thursday) and Mora Friday in a pair of Granite Ridge Conference games at 5 p.m. The Wolves are at Princeton Tuesday, May 8, also at 5.
On Tuesday, April 24, unbeaten Little Falls rolled over Milaca 19-1 in five innings in a GRC game at Little Falls. The Flyers scored in every inning, including seven times in the third inning.
“Little Falls has a very good team and we didn’t play well,” said Talberg.
Little Falls junior pitcher Spencer Fenske allowed four hits and three walks.
Sophomore Jorgen Erickson had a double while seniors Paul Young and Bob Peterson and McLouth each had a single.
Junior Hunter Foss, the first of three Milaca pitchers, took the loss.
Junior Collin Eckman had a triple and a single for Little Falls while senior Tony Gregory had a double and a single.
