Speech students advance to state

The Milaca High School speech team is finishing out its season with the recent completion of subsections and sections.

Milaca had 13 contestants who competed this past Saturday in the sections meet hosted at home. Mitch DeHaan placed fourth in Great Speeches, and Chloe Chambers placed seventh in Drama. Sophie Bauer, who placed third in humourous interpretation, and Dillon McCann, who placed third in poetry, will both be heading to the state competition this Friday, April 20 at Chanhassen High School.

Students who advanced to sections following an early April contest were 1st place Chloe Chambers-Drama, first place Dillon McCann-Poetry, second place Mitch DeHaan-Great Speeches, second place Angela Hayak-Discussion, second place Felicia Cluraghty-Informative, third place Chelsie Othoudt-Poetry, fourth place Bailey Whittemore-Discussion, fourth place Makayla Weidewitsch-Great Speeches, fourth place Sophie Bauer-Humorous, fourth place Tristen Maezold-Original Oratory, sixth place Zach Kuether-Drama, sixth place Ashley Cope-Poetry, sixth place Jesa Spry-Storytelling, Erin Hackenmueller-Alternate Poetry, and Cedar Larson-Alternate Prose.
