Milaca, in its 10th trip to the Class AA State Team Wrestling Tournament, won the consolation title.
The Wolves lost to top-ranked and eventual Class AA champion Simley 44-17 in the first round Thursday morning. Simley then topped Kasson-Mantorville 47-20 in the semifinals and Scott West 36-22 in the finals to win its fifth-straight A state title.
Milaca bounced back in the consolation semifinals and stopped Perham 32-26.
The Wolves then topped Monticello 35-34 Thursday night to win consolation honors.
Senior heavyweight Jordan Ahner gave Milaca the win with a 17-9 major decision over Monticello’s Brent Riddle. The Magic led 34-31 heading into the match and Ahner needed to win by eight points or more to pick up four team points.
It was Randy Zimmer’s final dual as Milaca coach and he was elated to end his 24th season as coach with two victories and the consolation title.
“We wrestled well and with a lot of determination,” said Zimmer. “Our kids didn’t back down, everyone gave it all they had.”
The Class AA Individual Tournament is today (Friday) and Saturday.
