It’s tournament time for Faith Christian School’s boys and girls basketball teams.
The Saints close out the 2011-12 season at the Christian Athletic League Tournament at Mankato. The tourney begins tonight (Thursday) and continues Friday and Saturday.
The FCS boys were seeded No. 5 while the FCS girls were seeded No. 4.
Last year, both Faith Christian teams won the consolation title at the tournaments.
“We will have to play some good games to win a trophy again this season,” said FCS Boys Coach Don Andrews. It’s a very strong field of teams. But, our goal is to place higher than we did a year ago.”
The FCS boys team dropped three games last week to end the regular season 16-12. The Saints lost to Cambridge Christian 75-50 Tuesday, Feb. 21, at FCS despite 25 points from sophomore guard Trevor Roelofs. On Friday, Fon du Lac topped FCS 77-49 at Cloquet. Roelofs scored 17 and junior center Micah Andrews had 13 in that game.
On Saturday, the Saints lost 49-37 at Mountain Lake Christian. Roelofs and junior forward Paul Selin each had 10 points.
The Faith Christian girls team closed out the regular season with a pair of victories and coach Mike Sohre is hoping his team’s play in those games will carry over to the CAL meet.
The Saints topped Fon du Lac 60-20 Friday as junior center Jamie Nelson scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds. Senior guard Mariah Roelofs added nine points and senior forward Alison Bechtle had 15 rebounds.
On Saturday, the Saints topped Mountain Lake Christian 35-30 as Nelson scored 10 points.
“If we play like we did last weekend, we can make a good showing in the CAL tournament,” said Sohre.
On Tuesday, Feb. 21, Cambridge Christian topped the Saints 64-27 at FCS.
