Funeral services for Joanne “Jo” Coomes, 85, of Foley will be Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at
the First Presbyterian Church in Foley with the Rev. Allen C. Jergenson officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Foley Memorial Fund in memory of Jo Coomes, 306 Norway Drive, P.O. Box 837, Foley, MN 56329 or to the American Diabetes Assoc., P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
Joanne died Feb. 2 at the Mille Lacs Nursing Home in Onamia with her family by her side.
She was born Jan. 23, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to George and Hazel (Boutelle) Chandlee.
She married Lloyd Coomes on Jan. 2, 1949 in Mason City, Iowa. She spent most of her adult life in Foley raising her family and working as a legal secretary. As an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Joanne loved to sing in the choir and enjoy fellowship with the church’s United Presbyterian Women’s group (UPW).
She is survived by her sons, Michael of Hudson, Wis., Scott (Julie) of Moorpark, Calif. and Pat (Heather) of Wahkon, Minn.; She was proud of her grandchildren, Caitlin, Alexander and Sara; Brandon, Andrew and step-granddaughter Nicki; Terri Jo, Zach; Maja and Alan. She was also so proud of her great-granddaughter Ezra (Nicki).
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lloyd; sons, Billy and Matt; and daughter-in-law Kathleen.
Arrangements are by the Foley Funeral Home in Foley.
