The Benton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a hunting accident in around 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 in Glendorado Township.

The caller told the office his stepson had accidentally shot himself in the foot while pheasant hunting at a game preserve. Deputies responded to the scene of the accident near the intersection of Benton County Road 9 and Highway 95.

Deputies found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his foot. Deputies learned that the trigger on the boy’s shotgun caught on a loop on his hunting vest, causing the firearm to discharge. The teen was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital by North Ambulance with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
