Gov. Mark Dayton announced the appointment of Sarah E. Hennesy as District Court Judge in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District in Mille Lacs County yesterday, Feb. 2.

Hennesy will replace Judge Steven Ruble, who retired at the end of 2011.

“I was very excited,” she said of the appointment. “I am thrilled to serve the people of Mille Lacs County. I can’t wait to start.”

Hennesy is currently a civil legal aid attorney with St. Cloud Area Legal Services where she practices family, government assistance and Social Security law. Hennesy has led her office’s collaboration with Stearns County’s Domestic Violence Court.

Previously, she worked as an attorney with Damiani & Damiani, P.C., representing English and Spanish-speaking clients in criminal and family law matters. Hennesy also serve as deputy public defender in Virginia.

Hennesy lives in St. Cloud with her husband and two children, one who enrolled in school.

“So for now, we will definitely be staying in St. Cloud,” she said. “But who knows what the future holds.”

Hennesy will meet this afternoon, Friday, Feb. 3, with Judge John Scherer to learn about the transition process, one she said will be her first challenge in moving to the new position.

“We have a very busy practice here at Legal Services,” Hennesy said. “So I’ll be working on wrapping up my work here so my colleagues aren’t overwhelmed.”
